I am reminded daily of the precious gift that is freedom. Freedom is not free. It has been paid for by the blood of patriots. I had a more poignant reminder today when we visited the Arlington National Cemetery. We watched the guard of the tomb of the unknown soldier. I looked out over the expanse of white head stones. I couldn’t speak and truly did not want to. I simply looked, took it in, read names, ranks, and service dates on head stones, and felt so honored to be in the walking the hallowed ground where heroes are buried.

Immediately a thought came to mind how close we are, given the current direction of our country, to losing the precious freedom so many have died and sacrificed for. I thought of the oath I took as a Marine to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

I shared with my wife that I could not sit back any more and allow anyone, and I mean anyone, attempt to destroy our country. It’s time to head to the mat, to take off the gloves, and to throw down. But not as you may expect.

The apostle Paul said in the book of Ephesians that we do not fight as the world fights.

While I would love to fight as the world does and as the world of social media does, I feel compelled to take a different path and approach. I believe in the foundations of our country…the Judeo Christian values and principles that reside in the very rule of law that governs our country. I believe in the Constitution. I believe in the values and the exceptionalism of America and of its people. I believe the reason our country remains the city on the hill is because of its people and what this country offers: unlimited potential and opportunity. But…it comes with a price.

When we take our freedom for granted…we lose it.
